Heat – Surface temperature (2021)
Description
The map layer “Hittestress – Surface temperature” indicates where heat stress can occur during summer days. The red areas are very sensitive to heat stress, the blue areas hardly.
The following factors play a role in the creation of this card:
» The emissivity (the heat @-@ appearance of a surface);
» The shadow
The emissivity is determined for the upper surface: if there are trees along a road, the emissivity of the tree surface above the road is taken. The emissivity and shadow are weighted on the basis of the expected contribution each factor has at the surface temperature.
Accountability
For this map, the height data of the Current Height File Nederland, version 2 was used. These are placed over the land use map. For the determination of heat stress, only the factors mentioned above have been taken into account. No account has been taken of wind or the estimated number of days of heat stress per year. It is therefore possible that the presented bottlenecks may not always be recognised in practice (to that extent). However, the map gives a good indication of the effect of each type of surface on the sensational temperature.
