Environmental accounts; origin and destination of waste
Description
As part of the Environmental Accounts, CBS sets out annually the
waste accounts together. Here you can find where the waste comes from (the
origin) and where it goes (the destination). Waste is here
divided into the categories of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. The
origin of the amount of waste in households, different
business classes and imports are presented. At the destination of waste
a distinction is made according to processing methods (re-use,
incineration and dumping/loosing) and export. The categories of waste in the
waste accounts are classified on the basis of European waste statistics
Regulation.
The waste accounts allow for different types of
waste indicators (e.g. total amount of waste generated) on
compare consistently with macroeconomic indicators
(such as gross domestic product). In addition, the waste accounts
very suitable for analysis of, for example, the cause of changes
of waste indicators over time.
Waste streams in waste accounts are limited to waste that is directly
is released in productive or consumer activities. To double counting
prevent waste generated after treatment (waste from waste)
disregarded as much as possible. Outside the waste accounts
cover the use of products on, inter alia, agricultural land (pesticides)
and roads (salt). Also not included is waste generated as a result of
for example, erosion and corrosion of infrastructure, abrasion of
car tires and brake discs and engine oil leakage. Continue to be
contaminated soil which cannot be allocated to a given year or
certain polluters, not included for methodological reasons. Also
material flows resulting from excavation, dredging or mining
not taken. Finally, radioactive waste is excluded from consideration.

This table was discontinued on 18 November 2011. Data are available
from 1990 to 2008. The figures for the last two years have a
provisional status. The figures for the other years are final.
Reason for discontinuation:
As of June 2011, the new standard business classification will be 2008
(SBI 2008) used by the National Accounts. The National
accounts have been transferred from the SBI '93 to the SBI 2008. The
Environmental accounts will be added to this since November 2011.
