Areas at risk of erosion on agricultural land

Description

On behalf of the Swedish Board of Agriculture, SLU has produced high-resolution (2x2m) maps showing where there is a risk of erosion occurring on Swedish arable land (Djodjic, Markensten 2019 - https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s13280-018-1134-8.pdf). Erosion is the process that occurs when soil particles are sludged up into and transported away with water flowing onto the ground. The erosion risk maps have been financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. When using the maps, you need to have read the information about using the maps and be aware that: • the maps contain personal data available for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest • maps are not an answer, but show where there is an estimated risk of erosion • maps alone cannot be used as a basis for assessing the risk of erosion in a site, but should be supplemented with additional information. How to use the maps There are two types of erosion risk maps to download: • map showing where soil particles can be released from the soil surface • map showing where the water flowing on the surface will flow. The information on where soil particles can be released can be used to find areas for the placement of measures that make it more difficult for soil particles to be released. The information about how the water that flows on the surface can be used to find areas where appropriate measures prevent the water from flowing as fast and measures that can collect particles. In order for you to be able to interpret and use the maps correctly, you need to know the conditions that exist for us to be able to publish the maps. The erosion risk maps are published under the Creative Commons 0 (CC0) Open Data License. The maps contain personal data, but are not covered by confidentiality Since the maps contain information about an area, which together with other data can be linked to a person, we consider the maps to be personal data. The Swedish Board of Agriculture's legal basis for the processing of personal data is to perform a task of public interest. The information contained in the erosion risk maps is not subject to confidentiality under the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act, as the maps do not contain information that would cause damage if disclosed. The maps are a basis, not a result. The maps show where there is an estimated risk of erosion. You should always supplement the maps with additional information, and the maps cannot replace a field visit. The maps show the risk of erosion based on the conditions that were available when the maps were produced in 2018. The erosion risk maps are the result of calculations made using the USPED data model. The calculations have been based on conditions corresponding to high spring flows of water, which does not happen annually. There are also uncertainties in the input data used where, for example, road drums are not included as flow paths for water. More detailed information on the erosion risk maps can be found on the Swedish Board of Agriculture's website and you can also download the maps there (https://jordbruksverket.se/agriculture-million-and-climate/maps-with-information-about-Swedish-akermark#h-Riskomradenforerosion).
