News on the Geology of the Holder Formation in the Western Münsterland
Description
The holder formation of the Upper Cretaceous in western Münsterland consists essentially of fine and medium sands, which can sometimes also be coarse or weakly sluggish. Occasionally quartic, rarely calcareously solidified sandstone benches occur. The distribution area of the owner formation has an area of about 850 km². It reaches its largest widths with up to 300 m at Groß Reken and Haltern. The regional structure of the area is characterised by wide, flat-wave chalk saddles and tolerances. While the fold structures are directed in the western part of the distribution area West Northwest – East-Southeast, they turn in the eastern part into a south-west-northeast direction. The width distribution of the holder formation is significantly influenced by the course of these wrinkle structures. While for a long time the idea of relatively undisturbed layer deposits was common, the results described show the image of tectonically influenced layers. These are significant north-west – southeast-directed transverse disturbances of the carbon, which mostly continue in the form of so-called reverse faults (late Cretan inversion) into the Cretaceous deck mountain range.
