All senior meetings and senior circles share the common goal of promoting contacts between people. Social contacts are more important than ever after leaving work, the departure of children, and even the loss of a partner. For example, in the circle of like-minded people in the district senior:innentreffs or in senior:innenkreisen and -gruppen. Theme 1: Senior:innentreffs Description text Senior:innentreffs: Senior:innentreffs are informal meeting places that are open to all Hamburg seniors free of charge. In addition to entertainment and socializing, there are cultural, leisure and further education offers and sports activities. Advice on all matters relating to seniors often complements the programme. Intergenerational and intercultural offers also enrich some senior meetings and establish social contact between old and young. There are a total of 81 Senior:innentreffs in Hamburg. The facilities are usually open four hours a week, five times a week. They are sponsored by various non-profit institutions located in all Hamburg districts. The facilities are available to all interested senior citizens with their low-threshold and free offers. There is also the possibility to volunteer in one of the numerous institutions of this kind. Most senior meetings also have digital devices, Internet access and digital training offers. Here, visitors can, for example, obtain information on the Internet or send e-mails or simply "chat" via social media channels and find new acquaintances in interest groups or maintain old ones. Theme 2:  Seniors’ circles and groups Text on Senior:innenkreise and Senior:innengruppen In senior circles and groups, people come together in a fixed group with an average of 15 participants in a district. They meet regularly, usually weekly, and receive a flat rate from the relevant district office for material costs, ongoing operations and premises. Interested senior citizens who would like to open a senior citizens' group can submit applications via the institutions to the respective district office. The relevant district office informs the applicants about the respective amount of funding. Senior Citizens and Demographic Change Unit: The department deals with basic questions of the development of Hamburg as a city in which older people can live independently and actively for as long as possible. Demographic change is seen as an opportunity for a city for all ages and supports the coexistence of generations. The tasks of the unit include in particular: die partizipative Entwicklung eines behördenübergreifenden Demografie-Konzeptes, die Planung und Förderung von Angebotsstrukturen in der Senior:innenarbeit und die Bearbeitung von Grundsatzfragen der Senior:innenarbeit der Bezirksämter und freien Träger, die Bearbeitung von Grundsatzfragen der Interessenvertretung und Mitwirkung von Senior:innen in der Stadt, die Förderung des bürgerschaftlichen Engagements von und für Senior:innen sowie die übergreifende Information für Bürger:innen zu Senior:innenthemen in Broschüren und im Internet.
