Finland 3. Bird Atlas

Description

The aim of the birds is to investigate the current distributions of nesting bird species in Finland and to investigate changes in species distributions. 3. In the Birdslas, data on the occurrence of bird species was collected from 10x10 km² squares according to the uniform coordinate system throughout Finland in 2006-2010. Bird monitoring is part of the monitoring of biodiversity. The latest information on nesting birds collected in the project can be combined with extensive bird information previously collected in Finland and other environmental information. A particularly important reference material for this project is the two bird batlas previously implemented in Finland (first atlas 1974-79; Hyytä et al. 1983 and the second atlas 1986-89; Väisänen et al. 1998). The bird Atlas project was based on extensive cooperation between bird monitoring and bird research institutes, organisations, researchers and enthusiasts. Birds are one of the best known and studied groups of organisms in our country, and our knowledge is of international excellence. In addition to bird scientists, Finland has an extensive, expert and well-organised bird hobby community. 3. The results of the Bird Atlas and the original data can be downloaded from the website of the Finnish Bird Data Centre: https://laji.fi/about/5651 The Central Museum of Natural Sciences has also published a data product compiled from the results of the 3 rd Bird Atlas as an interface service. In the INSPIRE data product, the information obtained from the nesting security classes of the avian Atlas has been combined to show the prevalence of nesting bird species in Finland. Species-specific distribution maps include those grids in the uniform coordinate system where nesting safety classes 2 – Possible nesting, 3 – Probable nesting or 4 – Certain nesting occur for the species.
