Surface water bodies WRRL
Description
A distinction is made between river water bodies and seawater bodies. River water bodies are considered in Baden-Württemberg as management units with the aim of producing ecologically functional habitats for native species. All rivers with a catchment area greater than 10 km² belong to the body of water. As a rule, rivers are considered together with their catchment area, i.e. the water body includes, in addition to the main water (section) with its adjoining waters, the drainage areas. Due to their overriding importance, streams and large rivers are separated from the associated catchment area and considered as their own water bodies. All lakes > 50 ha are considered seawater bodies.
A river water body was demarcated according to technical water management criteria. The size should allow efficient water management and should be about 300 km². The following criteria have been taken into account:
— natural spatial structure
— basic biocenotic characteristics
— Applicability of the MONERIS-BW nutrient balance model
— special features of the aquatic structure
— relevant longitudinal zoning and limnological aspects
