Philippines, Typhoon Haiyan 2013 - P02 - Bogo City - Damage analysis

Description

On Friday, November 8, typhoon Haiyan (category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale) hit the Philippines at 4:40 a.m. local time. With wind speeds of more than 300 km/h, the typhoon moved west-northwest across the islands of Samar and Leyte, triggering numerous storm surges that caused extensive destruction. Based on a visual interpretation of a WorldView-1 satellite scene from 11.11.2013 (recording time: 2:14 a.m.) a detailed damage assessment was carried out. A RapidEye satellite image from 23.04.2013 serves as a map background.Please note that some areas could not be evaluated due to cloud cover. Due to limited data, the individual buildings and streets are not always fully displayed.
