The dead; cause of death (extended list), age, gender
Description
This table contains figures on the underlying causes of death of deceased residents of the Netherlands. The causes of death are shown according to the comprehensive list of “three-character categories” by age (per 5-year class) and gender.
In the 2013 statistical year, CBS switched to the use of international software for automatic encoding of causes of death. This makes the figures more reproducible and comparable internationally. However, there are some significant shifts in the causes of death.

Status of the figures
The figures until 2020 are final. The figures for 2021 are provisional.
Amendments as of 23 June 2022:
The preliminary figures for 2021 have been added.
Amendments as of 11 January 2022:
By mistake, in 2020 in the group “I00-I99 Total zkt. heart and vascular system” figures were lost in a number of age classes. That has now been restored.
Changes as of 18 August 2021:
‘COVID-19’ has been added to the causes of death in 2020.
When are new figures coming?
The final figures for 2021 are sought to be published in the fourth quarter of 2022.
