INSPIRE habitat data inventory and the High Value Datasets (HVD), Mar. 2024
Description
This metadata covers an inventory (metadata records, downloadable and viewable datasets) of the spatial data on habitats reported by the EU Member States and the EEA EFTA States via the High-Value Datasets (HVD) and INSPIRE Data Themes sections in INSPIRE Geoportal. It compares with the habitat data as reported by the 38 EEA-Eionet member countries in the dedicate survey of the European Environment Agency, conducted in in 2023 and finalized in the first quarter of 2024. The inventory in INSPIRE was performed on 12-02-2024 and revised on 11-03-2024. The results of the inventory were compiled in an Excel table and a geodatabase, with the country boundaries as spatial units.
For consistency, the table covers all 38 EEA-Eionet countries, listed alphabetically. The attributes reflect the participation of the countries in the EEA survey and the publication their habitat data in the HVD and Data Themes sections of the INSPIRE Geoportal. In case of publication in INSPIRE, a list of attributes provides information on the available metadata, viewing and downloadable options. If available, the link (INSPIRE ULR) to the resource provides access to the available records. The last attribute of the table assesses the consistency between the information reported in the EEA survey and the habitat data published under INSPIRE. The results of this assessment are visualized in a thematic map and provided as WMS.
Habitat data is included in the list of high-value dataset under the Earth Observation and Environmental category of the HVD section in the INSPIRE Geoportal. The datasets considered within the scope and required to be made available are defined according to the Annex III of INSPIRE Data Specifications for the spatial data theme “Habitats and Biotopes” (https://knowledge-base.inspire.ec.europa.eu/publications/inspire-data-specification-habitats-and-biotopes-technical-guidelines_en).
