COVID-19 National SARS-CoV-2 waste water surveillance Municipal weekly averages
Description
This file contains per municipality, per week, the average number of SARS-CoV-2 virus particles per 100.000 inhabitants, as calculated from measurements of the number of virus particles per sewage treatment plant (RWZI).
The file is structured as follows:
For every week since 2020-09-07, the number of SARS-CoV-2 virus particles in sewage water per 100.000 inhabitants has been calculated per municipality. This number is a weighted average of the measured number of particles in the RWZIs serving the municipality concerned.
For each week, a weekly average per RWZI is first determined, based on all measurements available for that location. This results in one week grade per RWZI. This weekly figure is weighted by the number of inhabitants in the municipality using the relevant RWZI. These values are reputed per municipality, and divided by the sum of the number of observed inhabitants (i.e., the number of inhabitants in a municipality connected to RWZI that have one or more measurements). This results in a weighted average, per week, per municipality expressed per inhabitant. Multiplying by 100.000 gives the average number of virus particles per 100.000 inhabitant equivalents.
If none of the RWZIs within a municipality are available in a week, the record is “NA”.
When (for example by a municipal reclassification) two different population numbers apply to a municipality in one week, this is taken into account by using the population that is valid at the time of the measurement.
Weeks follow the ISO-8601 standard and run from Monday to Sunday.
The file contains per municipality all weeks from 2020-09-07 to the most recent week for which a value can be calculated. This may result in not all municipalities being included in the most recent (current) week.
The figures were calculated on the basis of the municipal classification as in force on the date of the measurement. Municipal reclassifications are applied on the date of the reclassification.
The information on populations per RWZI can be found in a turnover table provided by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

All measurements of individual RWZIs on which the municipality figure is based can be found in the open data set at RWZI record level (https://data.rivm.nl/meta/srv/dut/catalog.search#/metadata/a2960b68-9d3f-4dc3-9485-600570cd52b9).
Description of variables:
Version: Version number of the dataset. If the content of the dataset is structurally changed (i.e. not the daily update or a correction at record level), the version number will be changed (+ 1) and also the corresponding metadata in RIVMdata (data.rivm.nl).
Date_of_report: Date on which the file was created (format: YYYY-mm-dd).
Year: Year in which the week falls to which the municipal figure relates.
Week: Week number in the year [Year] to which the municipality figure relates.
Start_date: Start date of the week to which the municipal figure relates (format: YYYY-mm-dd).
End_date: End date of the week to which the municipal figure relates (format: YYYY-mm-dd).
Region_code: The CBS municipal code.
Region_name: Name of the municipality.
RNA_flow_per_100000_weeklymean: The calculated number of SARS-CoV-2 RNA particles measured in the sewage water, based on a weighted average of the measurements at RWZIs serving the municipality concerned, per week, per 100.000 inhabitants.
Because not all measurements are available at the same time, the most recently reported values are subject to change. This may result in differences in the date of publication of the data. It is also possible that earlier dates are corrected as a result of new laboratory results or corrections in source stocks of the Water Boards. This file is always based on the most up-to-date data.
