Implantable Continuous Glucose Monitoring under an agreement with limited clinical application

Description

Previous studies that investigate the use of real-time continuous glucose monitoring systems in patients with type 1 diabetes have shown improved glycemic control and lowered risk of acute diabetes-related hospitalizations. However the added therapeutic value of the use of this device in following patient groups is not yet clearly defined in a randomized controlled study: a) Patients with diabetes mellitus type 1, who are minimal 18 years old with allergic contact dermatitis; b) Patients with diabetes mellitus type 1, who are minimal 18 years old who have difficulties to apply a transdermal sensor because of physical inability. Therefore a temporary reimbursement (beperkte klinische toepassing (BKT)/ Application Clinique Limitée (ACL)) of this device for this type of patients was chosen. The results of this study could be used by the Commission for the Reimbursement of Implants and Invasive Medical Devices (CRIDMI) as basis to draft the definitive regulation for reimbursement.
