Climate change report 2010
Description
In its 2010 climate protection report, the Federal Environment Agency analyses greenhouse gas emissions in Austria from 1990 to 2008 and compares them with the objectives of the Austrian climate strategy. In 2008, the first year of the Kyoto commitment period, greenhouse gas emissions were 86.6 million tonnes. The use of flexible mechanisms or reductions from new and deforestation results in a target deviation of around 6.9 million tonnes. In order to keep the gap to the target as low as possible, further measures are needed at home. The additional use of flexible instruments will be necessary to fulfil the commitment of the Kyoto Protocol. In order to comply with the requirements of the European Union from 2013 with its reduced flexibility, measures of the Austrian Energy Strategy must be implemented immediately and in full.
