The population data grid contains grid-specific information on the number, age distribution and housing density of the population in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.

The data cover the years 1997-2003 and 2008-.

Features

The information on the different variables is presented in the columns of the table of characteristics. The variables in the columns are:

• INDEX = Box-specific index number/identification number
• RESIDENCE = The total number of persons permanently living in the building by square.

• IKA_X = The number of inhabitants per square metre is divided into nine age groups. The age groups are: IKA0_9, IKA10_19, IKA20_29, IKA30_39, IKA40_49, IKA50_59, IKA60_69, IKA70_79 and IKA_YLI80. Each age group column tells you how many people live in the box that belong to that age group.

Attention

In order to ensure the protection of privacy, only those boxes with a population of five or more are shown in the grid material. As far as the age distribution is concerned, the limit for the protection of privacy is set at 100 residents. This means that squares with a total population of 0-99
residents do not include exact numbers of age groups, but are marked as 99 for data protection reasons. The exact number of age groups is given
On the screen when the total number of inhabitants is 100 or more.

The plant population and residents, who cannot be connected to any building, are located in the Gulf of Finland in the lower right corner of the map.

Coordinate reference system: ETRS GK-25 (EPSG:3879)

Accuracy: Demographic data are expressed in squares with a size of 500 m * 500 m (in the latest 250 m * 250 m).
