Description
Geotopes are earth-historical formations of inanimate nature that convey knowledge about the development of the earth and life. They include deposits of rocks, soils, minerals and fossils as well as special parts of the landscape. It is the task of the State Office for Geology, Raw Materials and Mining (LGRB) to document these “windows into Earth’s history” in a nationwide geotope cadastre. This cadastre is available to interested and planning authorities as the basis for a sound protection of these earth-historical peculiarities.
