Cork production in Andalusia
Description
Cork oaks are one of the most valuable plant formations in the Western Mediterranean, where they spread more or less continuously over large areas, forming pure or mixed masses with other tree species typical of this region. Among the many direct and indirect benefits it brings to the areas in which it is located, cork is undoubtedly one of its most precious natural resources, providing important benefits from a social and economic point of view.
At present, the importance of knowing the annual productions of cork plays a fundamental role in the management and planning of the resource, allowing to estimate in advance the availability of raw material in the short and medium term, and with it, among other issues, to avoid strong price fluctuations.
For these reasons, since 2006, SACA has been compiling annually all the available information regarding the production of cork in Andalusia.
