Plant protection products in agriculture; active substance, crop, application
Description
This table contains figures on the use of plant protection products in agriculture. More specifically, it concerns the protection of plant production in professional arable farming and horticulture. The figures are broken down by crop and type of application.
In addition to the total amount of resources used, the use per hectare is also indicated.
In addition, the table contains data on the number of holdings with the use of plant protection products and the area on which these products are used.
The use includes the use by contractors on the farm (work by third parties). The use from 2020 includes wet soil disinfection (metam). The underlying codifications of the classifications (crops, cultivation sectors) used in this table are in line with the standard codes laid down by CBS.
Data on the use of biological fighters are also available at CBS. This figure can be found in another table, see paragraph 3.

Status of the figures:
All figures are final.
Amendments as of 12 October 2022:
Quality control (1) showed that the subject area and use per hectare per year for 2012 had an incorrect figure for total crops per substance. This has been corrected. (2) it was also found that the number of farms with crop protection and the percentage of farms with crop protection per crop and per substance were not properly reflected in 2012 and 2016. This has been corrected. Furthermore, (3) in 2012 and 2016 figures for substances and crops were put to unreliable if the number of observations with use was limited. This had already been implemented by 2020.
Amendments as at 31 March 2022:
The name of a plant protection product has been changed. The name with Eurostat code H991401 Glyphosate has been changed to H991402 Glyphosate.”
When will there be new figures?
New figures for 2024 are expected in December 2025.
