Analysis of ROSATOM activities or links with the EU
Description
On behalf of the Federal Environment Agency, the Federal Environment Agency analysed Rosatom's activities and links with the EU. Against the background of the geopolitical implications of the war in Ukraine, pronuclear EU member states want to promote the expansion and continued operation of nuclear energy. The aim is to counteract energy dependence on Russia and high energy prices. The background analysis shows manifold links and cooperations as well as a strong dependence of the Euratom operating states on Rosatom with regard to nuclear fuels and technologies. Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia and Czechia are 100% dependent on Rosatom fuel elements – Finland 35%. In particular, the strong link to the nuclear weapons complex is also evident – a third of a total of 275,000 Rosatom workers work in this area.
