Number of years of life lost at age 70/100,000 hab
Description
Synthetic indicator of premature mortality that provides an explicit means of estimating deaths that occur early. To calculate potential years of life lost (PYLL), the number of deaths at different ages is added and multiplied by the number of years remaining to live to a given age limit (70 years here). The results are standardised, the reference population is the 2013 European population. Infant deaths (first year of life) are excluded from the calculation of PYLL because they are due to specific causes and often have a different etiology than deaths at a later age This indicator is presented as an overall figure. It is expressed in lost years per 100,000 population aged 1 to 69.
