The supplementary pension gap according to salary and number of years of work among employed pensioners

Not all recent pensioners have access to a supplementary pension. The following graph shows the participation rate in the second pillar by gender and salary band according to the number of years worked. Among those who have worked between the ages of 35 and 39, women have a lower rate of participation in the supplementary pension than men for each salary bracket. Among women pensioners in the first salary bracket, 58% have a supplementary pension, compared to 87% of men. When comparing pensioners according to their average salary, it can be seen that the rate of participation in the supplementary pension increases with it. Thus participation rates among employees with 35-39 years of career in the highest wage brackets are well above the participation rates in the total population which are 66% among men and 48% among women. The graph below illustrates the average supplementary pension gap for recent second-pillar pensioner employees, by average career salary and number of years worked. It can be observed that, in almost all wage brackets, women's average supplementary pensions are higher than men's. However, in the lowest and last wage brackets, this trend is reversed. Let us look at the median amounts of supplementary pensions. It appears that, as with the averages, the median pension gaps are equally in favour of women who have worked between the ages of 35 and 39. Moreover, in the last salary bracket the median gap is smaller than the average gap, it is now only 6% in favour of men.
