Description
Maps of Historical Land Use in Lower Saxony 1 : 25,000 show the state before and at the beginning of the great cultivation measures of the 20th century. The State Office for Mining, Energy and Geology (LBEG) evaluates old topographical maps from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century in order to obtain the most accurate and interpretable statements on historical land use. The LBEG fits the depicted land uses into the current topographies and keeps them available for further evaluation after digital recording in the database. These data on land use at that time can be used to obtain clues about soil development and to reconstruct the distribution of wetlands or bogs, among other things.
