The flow of housing market; starting and flowing households 2010-2011
Description
This table provides insight into the start and flow of households in the housing market.
Of all new residents involved in a year’s empty homes (both new-build homes and existing ones), the table lists whether the new residents are starting or flowing households. The underlying assumption is that starting and flowing households often have a different position on the housing market and partly other housing preferences. In the case of the dwellings, a distinction has been made according to ownership of the property concerned and property of the previous home. The possibilities and desire to flow into a owner-occupied house, rental house of a housing corporation or a rental property of another landlord will also depend on a number of characteristics of the household. This table lists the characteristics of the household age, income and household composition.
About half of all people who move to a new address in the Netherlands each year do so to an empty home. The other half consists of people moving into an existing household or moving to “other housing” (e.g. a nursing home). The table only includes data from households moving to an empty home.
