Percentage of entity covered with canopy
Description
This statistical product concerns the measurement of tree cover (canopy) at least 3 metres high in Wallonia. The tree cover corresponds to the area covered by leaves, branches and tree stems seen from the sky and at least 3 metres above the ground. It is measured at the period when the trees are the most deciduous, that is, in summer.
The main indicators of this statistical product are:
· the area (ground projection of the tree cover) of the canopy of at least 3 m in height per entity
· the share of canopy area in the entity’s total area
· the average % of canopy within a radius of 500 m around the entity’s inhabitants (place of residence).
These indicators were calculated in 2023 as part of a “[\2](\1)” They will be updated on a multiannual basis, in particular in the light of the availability of good quality orthophotos and LIDARs for Wallonia as a whole.
