Drinking water abstraction areas

Description

Presentation of the groundwater catchment areas of the water works of public drinking water supply with a abstraction of more than 100,000 cubic metres per year, for which no drinking water protection area is established or planned. Abstractions from different groundwater reservoirs in some cases lead to overlays of hydraulically separate catchment areas. The data base for the definition of drinking water abstraction areas is heterogeneous: The Identification of drinking water abstraction areas of major waterworks, such as: in the Kiel region or in the east of Hamburg, it is usually based on extensive hydrogeological works with groundwater equalisation plans, which are usually quite reliable Allow the demarcation of the respective groundwater catchment area. Basis of the investigation the drinking water abstraction areas in the Lübeck area are a country’s own groundwater flow model as a result of extensive, country-owned studies on geology and Groundwater dynamics in this area. In the Flensburg and Wacken areas, groundwater flow models also provide guidance on the catchment area delimitation. In many cases, however, existing preparations and groundwater equalisation plans do not cover the entire Groundwater catchment area. In the case of smaller waterworks in particular, information is often limited to the close range of the sockets. River basins can then: only approximate, partly by including additional information from the Land Geological Archives, on the basis of existing supraregional trend plans on general groundwater flow ratios or taking into account morphological circumstances. The term ‘drinking water extraction area’ used in Schleswig-Holstein is legal not standardised, own legally binding regulations for drinking water abstraction areas do not exist. The term ‘drinking water extraction area’ is, however, as a category in the Regional planning, since in drinking water abstraction areas in addition to securing the public drinking water supply is of particular importance to the aspect of preventive groundwater protection when balancing with other usage requirements.
