Double dike (Structure Vision Eemsmond-Delfzijl)
Description
This file contains the double dike, as established in the Structure Vision Eemsmond-Delfzijl.
In this subproject of the dike improvement Eemshaven-Delfzijl a second dike will be built behind the current primary sea dike. This area is set up for a period of 25 years. In the current primary barrier comes an in- and exhaust construction.
The area between the primary sea dike and the new second dike is about 55 hectares in size. Through a tidal diver, salt water can flow in and out, and tidal action occurs in the area where the sludge from the Eems-Dollard can settle down. This sludge catch zone of about 25 hectares can be used by foraging birds living in Natura 2000 Wadden Sea area.
The realisation of an inter-time area and the capture of sludge add value to the estuary, namely improving gradual transitions and reducing the sludge problem in the Eems-Dollard. In addition, approximately 30 hectares are set up for innovative salt farming. For this purpose, an organisation is set up with entrepreneurs to grow indoor dyke shellfish (clamps), seaweed and salty crops. Due to the increase in yield from these crops compared to the current use, the area will maintain its economic value as a whole.
