Natura 2000 — Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Habitats Directive
Description
The Natura 2000 network comprises 2 types of regulatory areas: special Protection Zones (SPAs) and Community Importance Sites (SICs).
SPAs are designated on the basis of the Inventory of Important Bird Conservation Areas (ICOAs) as defined by European Directive 79/409/EEC of 25/4/1979 on the conservation of wild birds.
CISs are defined by the European Directive of 21 May 1992 on the conservation of natural habitats
A “proposed” site will be successively a proposal for a Community Importance Site (CPSIC), then a SCI after designation by the European Commission, and finally a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) after an order by the Minister responsible for the Environment.
