NP3b2020 VMS pelagic gear
Description
The theme shows fishing with non-bottom contacting gear within Natura 2000 areas. Fishing with non-bottom contacting gear has been calculated for pelagic trawls including purse seine fisheries in the period 2013-2018. The fishing is shown on the map with VMS data. VMS data appear less frequently on the map than AIS data, as these only need to be sent once an hour from vessels over 12 metres. The points shown are for a given speed of the vessel at which it is assumed the fishing can take place.
