German Agricultural Open Data Platform for Food Security

In the field of plant genetic resources, Germany provides data on national gene banks. This includes collection stocks • the national ex-situ gene bank of the Leibniz Institute for Plant Genetics and Crop Research (IPK) with almost 150,000 increments from more than 3,000 different crop species, • the Deutsche Genbank fruit with more than 1,000 accessions to the fruit species apple, cherry and strawberry, • Deutsche Genbank vines with more than 4,400 acquisitions, • the Deutsche Genbank ornamental plants with more than 12,000 accessions, including data on rhododendron and rose, • the gene bank for wild plants for food and agriculture (WEL) with more than 3,000 incidents of native wild plants, • the gene bank tobacco with almost 800 increments, • and information on current breeder varieties (“Varieties for Diversity”) provided by German breeders for the Multilateral System of the International Seed Treaty. In order to ensure efficient data exchange, the data fields comply with the internationally agreed requirements of the EURISCO exchange format, which is mainly based on the FAO and Bioversity International’s Multi-Crop Passport Descriptor List.
