Mapping of salmon juvenile habitats on mapped watercourses in Brittany
Description
“carto_habitat_sat_bretagne” is a representation of juvenile salmon habitats of 1.626 km of watercourses mapped in Brittany.
Data from salmon juvenile habitat mappings were digitised in a Geographical Information System and banked in a common regional format and according to the SANDRE reference framework by the Brittany Great Migrators Association in 2017. The result of this work is a geographical layer in shapefile format in Lambert 93 comprising an awarded table composed of the description of the habitats. Since 2017, the regional layer has been updated annually.

The mapping of juvenile salmon habitats makes it possible to know the qualitative and quantitative importance of areas conducive to the development of young salmon and thus calculate its potential for smolt production. Each area describes the habitat, its dimensions (length, width and depth), particle size, shade and cover with aquatic vegetation.
