European Water Framework Directive (WFD): State of surface water bodies (OWK), management cycle 2009-2015
Description
The maps describe the ecological status of the WFD-relevant surface water bodies (flowing waters with catchment area > 10 km2, standing waters > 50 ha) in the Free State of Thuringia. The status assessment of surface water bodies is based on five assessment categories (very good, good, moderate, unsatisfactory, bad).
In the case of significantly modified and artificial bodies of surface water, instead of an assessment of the ecological status, the ecological potential in which the body of surface water is located at the time of collection shall be identified.
The assessment of the status of a surface water body is essentially based on an assessment of biological components complemented by hydromorphological and chemical-physical components.
