Description
The over 1000-year-old mining in the Harz led to considerable heavy metal contamination in the soils of the floodplains in parts of its foreland. The heavy metal loads are primarily the substances lead, cadmium, arsenic, copper and zinc.
On the basis of soil and geological area information as well as point information on soil loads, the LBEG identified areas in which increased heavy metal loads are to be expected.
