Valuable ridge areas in Pirkanmaa Inventory Review 2014

Description

The review of the inventory of the demarcation of valuable ridge areas is part of the POSKI project for the coordination of groundwater protection and the management of aggregates in Pirkanmaa in 2012-2015, which is a continuation of the POSKI project carried out in part of Pirkanmaa between 1997 and 2000. The data includes new demarcation of the valuable ridge areas examined in connection with the inventory work. The total number of regions is 131 (8 nationally valuable, 34 county valuable and 89 locally valuable). The mapping and inventory of ridge formations in Finland started at the national level in the 1970s, and following the entry into force of the Land Materials Act in the 1980s, the ridge areas to be included as a national ridge protection project were limited. Since then, the inventory of ridge areas has been carried out at the local level in the counties. Three different studies have been prepared on the demarcation of high-value ridges in Pirkanmaa between 1990 and 2008. In addition, the first regional plan for Pirkanmaa presents its own demarcation for geologically valuable ridge formations (ge1 areas). In the course of each survey, the ridge areas (or some of them) have been redefined and resulted in a number of conflicting demarcations. Problems arise when different parties make decisions using restrictions made at different times. The aim of this update work is therefore to examine the conflicts caused by the demarcations made at different times and to create new demarcation based on uniform criteria for all regions. The Pirkanmaa Regional Council received funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the POSKI project by the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Pirkanmaa. In addition, the Pirkanmaa Regional Council, the Geological Survey of Finland, the Municipality of Kangasala, the Municipality of Lempäälä, the City of Nokia, the Municipality of Pirkkala, the City of Tampere and the City of Ylöjärvi supported the funding of the project.
