Emissions of nutrients to surface water from agriculture
Description
An excess of nutrients in surface water can lead to excessive algal blooms, which, for example, greatly reduces visibility and can make oxygen management problematic.Net emissions or losses are the dirt loads that effectively end up in surface water. Emissions of N and P from agriculture are calculated using the Nutrient Emission MOdel (NEMO).Agriculture accounts for an important share of net emissions of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) to surface water.Net emissions of nitrogen to surface water from agriculture do not show a clear evolution in the period 2010-2019.The trend for phosphorus appears to be slightly decreasing.
