Philippines, Typhoon Haiyan 2013 - P06 - San Remigio (North) - Damage analysis

Description

On Friday, November 8, typhoon Haiyan (category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale) hit the Philippines at 4:40 a.m. local time. With wind speeds of more than 300 km/h, the typhoon moved west-northwest across the islands of Samar and Leyte, triggering numerous storm surges that caused extensive destruction. According to official estimates, more than 2,300 people died. Hundreds of thousands became homeless.The map shows the situation in the area around the village of San Remigio. Based on a visual interpretation of before and after satellite images (before: Pléiades, 02.09.2013, 02:22 UTC - After: WorldView-1, 11.11.2013, 02:14 UTC; Pléiades, 14.11.2013, 02:10 UTC) a detailed damage assessment was carried out. The after image from 14.11.2013 serves as a map background.Please note that some areas could not be evaluated due to cloud cover.
