Description
The “Swiss Cultural Property Protection Inventory with Objects of National (A-Objects) and Regional Importance (B-Objects)” (KGS Inventory) is published by the Department of KGS in the Federal Office for Civil Protection (BABS). It is developed in cooperation with the cantons and the Federal Commission for Cultural Property Protection (ECKGS) and is carried out periodically. The version revised between 2017 and 2020 is the fourth version of this federal inventory after 1988, 1995 and 2009 and was approved by the Federal Council on 13 October 2021. Due to the legal requirements, the Confederation and the cantons are obliged to plan and take precautionary measures to protect the cultural goods listed in the inventory from the effects of armed conflicts as well as from disasters, emergencies (floods, earthquakes, etc.) and other hazards (e.g. fires, landslides). The Swiss KGS inventory contains both immobile and mobile objects, namely architectural monuments, archaeological sites and treasured areas as well as entire collections and holdings in museums, libraries and archives. On the other hand, mobile individual objects are not included in such cultural institutions.
