Persons receiving AOW pension; gender, age and migration background
Description
This table provides insight into the number of persons receiving benefits under the General Old Age Pensions Act (AOW).
The data are broken down by the following personal characteristics:
- sex;
- age;
- migration background.
The figures refer to the last day of the reporting month.
Data available from: January 2013.
Status of figures:
The figures as of January 2013 are final with the exception of the figures for the last three months, which are provisional.
The preliminary figures for the last three months for the categories of personal characteristics other than ‘Unknown’ are based on estimates. However, this estimation method is not sufficient to determine the values of the personal characteristics for the categories ‘Unknown’. Therefore, the figures for ‘Gender: unknown’, ‘Age: unknown’ and ‘Migration background: unknown’ for the last 3 months are detailed.
The compilation of data for StatLine tables that contain breakdowns by personal characteristics is always based on the most recent data from the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). Because different StatLine tables are updated at different times, it is possible that a different version of the BRP has been used for one table than for another table. As a result, there may be limited differences between figures in this table compared to other tables with the same population. In this case, the most recent published figures are the most accurate.
The method of determining the number of people with an AOW pension with a migrant background and subcategories therein has improved drastically as of January 2018. Determining the figures for the period 2013-2017 in a qualitatively comparable way is not possible. This is why these figures for this period are dotted in the table.
For the reporting periods from January 2021 onwards, the derivation of the country of birth has changed in order to obtain information on the migration background from the BRP. Due to various developments, land borders have changed over time, such as the disintegration of the former Eastern Bloc countries and births in the Gaza Strip. As a result, on balance, the number of unknowns for migration background has fallen sharply compared to the previous month.

- the figures for January 2024 have become final.
- the provisional figures for April 2024 have been added.
When will there be new figures?
New figures will come in July 2024.
