Biocides monitoring focus 2017: Disinfectant active ingredients
Description
The objectives of the present study were the review of selected biocidal products with disinfectant active substances with regard to compliance with chemical and biocidal product labelling requirements and the analytical control of the active substances indicated on the label. Quaternary ammonium compounds and glutaral as well as the banned active substances triclosan and triclocarban were investigated for active substance(s). Out of 32 products, five products showed deviations from the declared active substance content. For three products, the active substance levels could not be checked due to poor labelling. Triclosan and triclocarban were not detectable in any of the disinfectants examined. Once the EU approval procedure for quaternary ammonium compounds has been completed and the active substances have been established, a new analytical determination is useful.
