Livestock size on agricultural holdings: reference date 1 April and 1 December
Description
This table shows the number of cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, ducks for slaughter and pigs on Dutch agricultural holdings. The herd size shall be fixed at 1 April and 1 December.
There may be a difference between the animal numbers in the Agricultural Census Tables and this livestock table.
As of 2018, the number of veal calves, fattening pigs, chickens and turkeys in the Agricultural Census will be adjusted in the event of temporary vacancy on the reference date.
The Agricultural Census is a structure survey, in which an adjustment in case of temporary vacancy is important for the determination of the type of holding and the economic size of the holdings.
With regard to the livestock table, the size of the livestock at the reference date is important, which is why the animal numbers in this livestock table are not adjusted in the event of temporary vacancy.

Status of figures:
New figures on livestock are first published as 'provisional' and when more and more complete data from the Agricultural Census become available, adjusted accordingly from provisional to 'final'.
Changes as of 14 May 2024:
The final figures for April 2023 have been added and the provisional figures for December 2023 have been updated.
When will there be new figures?
Preliminary figures for April appear in September. Preliminary figures for December appear in February of the following year.
The final figures for April appear in May of the following year and the final figures for December appear in September of the following year.
