Number of WAO, Wajong and WAZ benefits per month, 1998-2010 (November)
Description
The table shows the number of benefits in the context of a
number of laws on disability. It is about the law on the
disability insurance (WAO), the Incapacity for Work Act—
provision for young people with disabilities (Wajong) and the Incapacity for Work Act—
self-employed (WAZ) insurance. The number of benefits in the framework
from the WIA and the new Work and Labour Support Act for the Young Disabled
(Wajong) have not yet been included in the tables. Expected
this will be the case around November 2010.
From 1 January 2004, workers who fall ill on or after that date may,
no longer claiming a WAO benefit. These workers can,
after the employer has paid the salary 104 weeks, as of 29 December

working capacity (WIA). For those who already have a benefit,

From 1 August 2004, self-employed persons who are ill on or after that date
no longer claim a benefit under the WAZ.
For those who already have a WAZ benefit, nothing changes.
With effect from 1 January 2010, the Incapacity for Work Act is
young people with disabilities (Wajong) turned into the Work and Labour Support Act
young people with disabilities (Wajong). Young people with a disability or illness in
first, the right to help in finding and keeping work.
In addition, they can receive income support.
The old Wajong will continue to apply to young people who before 1 January 2010
have applied for benefits.
The number of benefits is splintered according to a number of characteristics of
the recipient of the benefit and the benefit:
— gender;
— age;
— degree of incapacity for work;
— diagnosis of disability;
— business sector;
— origin grouping;
— duration of the benefit.
The breakdown by diagnostic code is for the period 1998-2000 only
available for the December months. It turns out that, in the message—
stockpiles underlying the figures on the
incapacity benefits, as from January 2006 the reason for
disapproval (diagnosis code) is not correctly encoded. The breakdown by
diagnostic code has therefore been removed from the tables from 2006 and only becomes
republished after the corrected files of the reporter
have been received.
The business sector categories “government education and sciences” and
“government other” has been forced to merge for the years 1998-2000
and included in the “government other” category.
As of January 2004, the classification by business sectors has changed.
The sector codes of the category “Government services” have been or become
January 2004 classified in the “Government Other” category.
Of the vast majority of benefits to persons residing in the
abroad, the category of origin is unknown. See also the table

The figures from October 2009 to November 2010 have been finalised.
When are new figures coming?
The table has been discontinued. Figures on disability benefits
(including the WIA and the new Wet wajong) from January 2010 onwards
included in a new table.
