Above ground catchment areas — partial catchment areas

Description

The catchment area of a water is the part of the landscape that derives all precipitation and the resulting outflows into that water and feeds it with it. The catchment area is mainly determined by topography and geological conditions and includes above and underground drains. The catchment area of a smaller flowing water is always part of the catchment area of the larger water into which it flows. The catchment areas of the waters are separated by so-called “water sheaths”, which usually run along the crest lines of the site. Due to geological peculiarities, however, these can also differ significantly from the terrain surface. Underground and above-ground watersheds can have different locations.
