Claims for the insured partner pension; pension providers and schemes
Description
In the Netherlands, the pension system consists of three components, the so-called pillars. In these pillars a pension provision can be built up for old age and provision is included in the pillars, which may provide for a benefit for the partner in the event of the death of a person. With regard to the latter benefits, the structure of the pillars is as follows:
— The first pillar includes the General Survivors Act (Anw).
— In the second pillar, a partner pension can be insured or accrued within employment-related, collective pension schemes.
— Finally, under the third pillar, individual products can be purchased from insurers. Think of a life insurance policy or a survivor’s annuity.
This table provides an overview of the status of entitlements to future partner pension and the total gross annual amount of insured partner pension at the end of the reporting year, within the second pillar.
Data available from: 2017.
Status of the figures:
The figures from 2017 to 2020 are final. The figures for 2021 are provisional.
Amendments as of 15 December 2022:
— Added the preliminary figures for 2021;
— The 2019 and 2020 figures have been finalised.
As a result of a quality benefit, some pension providers have been transferred to the right type of pension provider in 2021 compared to 2020. This mainly causes a shift in the number of entitlements from corporate pension fund to pension insurer. In addition, sectoral pension funds increased significantly in 2021 in the case of ‘Death member after retirement – Partner receives up to AOW date’. This was caused by a modified valuation of this amount at a pension provider.
When will there be new figures?
The preliminary figures for the year 2022 will be published in the fourth quarter of 2023.
