Description

The data in this table are based on the Labour Force Survey (EIA). The EBB is a study carried out by CBS to collect information about the relationship between people and the labour market. This relates characteristics of individuals to their current or future position on the labour market. This table contains data on the labour force according to the international definition. The Dutch definition of the labour force differs from the definition that applies internationally as a standard: the International Labour Organisation (ILO). As a result, the size and composition of the labour force differs. First, the Dutch definition applies a threshold of 12 hours for the number of hours per week that someone works or wants to work. In the international definition is not the case. Secondly, the unemployed labour force is defined differently. According to the international definition, someone should be able to start a job within two weeks. In the Dutch definition, in certain cases, a period of three months is set at the time when a person can start working or has carried out search activities. Due to a new EBB weighing method, all EBB tables have been discontinued and moved to the archive. Instead, new tables are created. In these new tables, the figures have been corrected by a new weighing method until 2001. From 2001 onwards, it is also possible to publish quarterly figures for a limited set of variables. The years for 2001 have not been corrected and relate to the figures previously published. A detailed description of the EBB’s new weighing method can be found on the theme page.
