This table contains results on the theme of the museum, the number of visits, rates, exhibitions and employment of museums.
As of 2015, the research population has been recalibrated. As a result, the results from 1993 to 2013 are no longer comparable to the results in this table.
Per statistical year 2016, a redesign of the typing of the museums has been carried out. In addition, the characterisation of the centre of gravity of the collection has been unleashed by the National Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE). Museums have been able to fill out the most important subject of the museum in the 2016 questionnaire. In consultation with Museumvereniging, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and the RCE, it was decided to use this classification in all statistics. The classification has been adjusted retroactively with effect from 2015. In the 2020 questionnaire, all museums retyped themselves and the category “Other” has ceased to exist.

The figures for the years 2015 to 2017 are final. The figures from 2018 are provisional.

When will there be new figures?
Preliminary figures for 2022 will be published in the fourth quarter of 2023.
