Freight transport; modes of transport, transport flows to and from the Netherlands
Description
This table contains figures on the transported cargo weight of domestic and cross-border freight transport (excluding transport via the Netherlands). Figures are available for all modes of transport (inland waterways, maritime, road, rail, aviation and pipeline).
Data available from: 1998
Status of figures:
All figures up to 2012 are final with the exception of inland waterway transport for the years 2007-2009. Data for 2013 to 2020 are provisional.
Because the data are compiled from different statistics, in which small adjustments may still have taken place, the figures may show small deviations from previously published results.
Figures on the carriage of goods by road by foreign vehicles in the Netherlands are based on Eurostat data. Figures for the 4th quarter 2020 of foreign road hauliers from the United Kingdom have been estimated on the basis of the data for the first three quarters.
The figures for maritime transport up to and including 2010 are based on gross plus weight. From 2011 this is the gross weight, i.e. excluding the unladen weight of the transport unit (e.g. container).
Changes as of 3 April 2024
Over the period from 2013 onwards, a new observation and processing method on pipeline transport has been introduced. From 2013 to 2022, figures on cross-border pipeline transport have been updated and data on domestic pipeline transport have been added. For the years 1998 to 2012, data on international pipeline transport are based on the old processing method and can only be used as an indication of transport.
When will there be new figures?
The new figures will become available in the 3rd quarter after the end of the previous calendar year.
