Description
Hoog Nederland is the part of the Netherlands where the surface consists largely of Pleistocene deposits.
About a quarter of this area was covered during the Holocene (after 10,000 BP) by sediment deposited by water (colluvium, stream and river deposits, etc.), wind (sand), plant growth (peat) and man (culture cover).
Because of these covers, the archaeological remains are often better protected against later disturbances.
