Development of the waste prevention programme 2011
Description
The Waste Framework Directive requires Member States to establish a waste prevention programme. Its overall objective is to decouple economic growth from the environmental impact of waste generation. The Federal Environment Agency analyses the current environmental policy framework conditions, exemplary waste prevention initiatives, developments in the field of waste prevention indicators and the challenges to material flow and waste management. The focus is on the efficient handling of food, import dependence on metals and waste prevention through repair and reuse. On this basis, a list of around 70 waste prevention measures was drawn up, which - within the framework of the Federal Waste Management Plan - form the basis for the 2011 waste prevention programme.
