Iisalmi’s living digital master plan
Description
The City of Iisalmi has launched a strategic master plan in 2017. The strategic master plan is drawn up using spatial data sets and utilising the YKR grid material provided by SYKE and the LIITERI service. In addition, the city’s own GIS is used as a spatial data platform. The master plan is compiled by the TRIMBLE LOCUS system into a database with geometry with characteristic data. Once it has been completed, the master plan will also be examined digitally with the MAP spatial data programme, where its view angle can be the whole city or the exact YKR screen (250 x 250) m.
During the project, a living and digital master plan was developed and a platform for a living and digital master plan was tested, so that larger spatial datasets would also form the basis for the interpretation of the plan. This project identified the problem areas for creating an interface with the YKR grid data and, for example, the LIITERI service. During the project, the pain points for opening these interfaces and the interpretation of the digital master plan in a geographical data-based digital environment were studied.
The idea of a living master plan on a spatial data platform is groundbreaking and could also be a solution in terms of urban structure management. Zoning must be prepared for growth, but with this solution, growth (purpose indication for housing in reversible areas) would only be realised if it is supported by the demographic development and vitality of the city.
