Description
The information presented corresponds to the update as of 15/12/2022, according to the information of the Natura 2000 Network sites sent by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) to the European Commission until that date.
The Sites of Community Importance (SCIs) are proposed by the different competent administrations, subsequently they must be designated as Special Areas of Conservation (SACs), these together with the Special Protection Areas for Birds (SPAs) make up the Natura 2000 Network.
SCI data become official only when the European Commission approves the respective biogeographical lists of SCIs. The Special Protection Areas for Birds (SPAs) are proposed and declared by the different competent administrations, these together with the Special Areas of Conservation (SACs), make up the Natura 2000 Network. The first declarations began in 1995.
