Drilling-near protection areas
Description
Drilling-near-protection areas (BNBOs) are legally based on Section 11 of the Water Supply Act.
The BNBO is an administratively determined protection zone, based on a specific calculation. The zone is designed around all public water supply wells belonging to public water supplies for drinking water purposes.
The BNBO reflects the zone around an abstraction well where the groundwater level is lowered when the waterworks pump up the groundwater. The size of the area where a funnel effect occurs depends on many local conditions. The calculations are based, among other things, on information about how much water is abstracted, as well as which layers of soil are around the borehole and how fast the water flows through the layers.
The dataset contains municipal and state-determined BNBOs.
