Bicycle traffic volumes (DB Rad+) Hamburg

Description

This dataset contains the cycle traffic volumes and the average cycle traffic speeds, which are recorded in the Hamburg road network with the help of the DB Rad+ app. The use of the data takes place only with the consent of the respective app users. The total volume of cycle traffic per road section is provided per year (in the case of years started until the previous day) and the total volume of cycle traffic over the last seven days. In the first year (2022), additional areas of Hamburg’s urban area and road network have gradually been unlocked over the year, so that the data for 2022 does not represent a reliable overall picture of the entire city. Only those road sections on which eight or more journeys took place in the period considered are shown. For each line section, the total number of journeys as well as the mean speed (km/h) in the respective period are displayed. The network basis on which the data is projected comes from Openstreetmaps. The data were prepared for Hamburg in particular for the presentation in the urban geoportals. The data mainly serve a qualitative assessment of which roads are used how much of cycling traffic and whether there are changes/shifts over the years, e.g. because cycling facilities have been renovated or newly built. The absolute numbers, on the other hand, are not very meaningful, as they depend largely on the number of users of the DB Rad+ app. It should also be noted that the users of the DB Rad+ app and thus also the routes used are not necessarily representative of the total population and cycling traffic throughout the city.
